1. Farhan Akhtar's first film as an actor
Yes, you read that right. Not Rock On!! but The Fakir of Venice is technically Farhan Akhtar’s acting debut film. However, the film got shelved and the former became his official debut vehicle as an actor. The Fakir of Venice is a Hindi drama about a con man’s quest to find a Fakir who can bury himself in the sand for an art installation in Venice.
Farhan plays 29-year-old Adi Contractor, the con man who undertakes the task to find such a Fakir in exchange for some bucks to sponsor his further studies in the United States. His character is extremely selfish but one with a humour.
2. Annu Kapoor as the Fakir, Sattar
Annu Kapoor plays the Fakir in The Fakir of Venice. He is actually a painter Sattar, who buries himself in the sand of Mumbai’s Juhu beach for some extra bucks for his family. Sattar is suffering from a life-threatening disease but doesn’t back down from doing the sand burial act for those around him.
3. A.R. Rahman's music
Academy and Grammy award-winning music maestro A.R. Rahman is one reason to watch this film. Albeit there is only one song in the film – Wako Naam Fakir – the background score is a treat for Rahman’s fans nonetheless. A catchy, mellow tune grows on you slowly.
4. The exotic locales of Venice
5. A story by Homi Adajania
Known for being the man behind Bollywood entertainers like Cocktail and Finding Fanny, Homi Adjania is to be credited for the story of The Fakir of Venice. However, the direction was handled by Anand Surapur. Surapur is best known for his works in the ad film industry – the Hamara Bajaj campaign, Dominos and other brand endorsements have been all his work.
