How Ashutosh Rana, Neena Gupta, Kumud Mishra’s Characters Make Mulk A Powerful Film

These actors held their own, despite sharing screen space by splendid performers like Taapsee Pannu and Rishi Kapoor.

Ashutosh Rana Neena Gupta Kumud Mishra As Supporting Characters In Mulk

A film isn’t strong without its supporting cast. In fact, many-a- times it happens that the supporting actors are more memorable than the main characters in the film. However, Mulk is a film where both the main and supporting cast plays its roles with perfection.

There’s no doubt that Rishi Kapoor (Murad Ali Mohammed) and Taapsee Pannu (Aarti) sail the film through with ease. However, Neena Gupta (Tabassum), Ashutosh Rana (Santosh Anand), Kumud Mishra (Judge), Rajat Kapoor (SSP Danish) and Manoj Pahwa (Bilal Mohammed) deserve equal credit for making Mulk even more powerful with their performance.

Ashutosh Rana

Ashutosh plays the prejudiced prosecutor Santosh Anand, who is his crude, mean self when proving the case against Murad Ali and his family. The actor is believable in his role, so much so, that there’s a part of you which starts disliking him instantly.

Does Santosh succeed in winning the case? Watch the film to find out.

Neena Gupta

Neena as Tabassum is lovable. She is the glue that holds the family together and is fun, serious whenever the situation demands.

There is a scene where Tabassum is talking about the day she met her daughter-in-law for the first time and discovered that she shares her name. Neena is so natural in this scene that you will wonder why the actress isn’t seen in films more often.

Kumud Mishra

Kumud Mishra as the judge is effortless to say the least. He’s convincing to the point where you believe you are watching a judge in an actual court proceeding. It’s especially in the ending scene of the film, that we are reminded of the actor’s brilliant craft.

Rajat Kapoor

Rajat as SSP Danish is confident and in control, just like the character demands. Not only does the actor look smashing in uniform but owns the character with sass.

Manoj Pahwa

If Manoj’s portrayal of Bilal doesn’t make you cry, we don’t know what will. The actor is remarkable in the film and evokes instant compassion with his stellar act as a man who is being wrongly accused of terrorism based on religious prejudice.
