The trailer of Dia Mirza-starrer ZEE5 original web series Kaafir is out. Set in a war-ravaged Kashmir, the emotional drama marks the debut of both the actors in the digital space. Kaafir features Dia as a single mother Kainaaz, an alleged terrorist who has been sentenced to prison. The dialogues in the trailer suggest that Dia is a Pakistani woman, mother to a baby girl who was born behind the bars. Uri: The Surgical Strike actor Mohit Raina plays a lawyer-cum-journalist who sets out to seek justice for the mother-daughter duo.
The video starts with the shot of a young girl singing Jana Gana Mana – the Indian National Anthem and soon starts into the Pakistani one. We see scenes wherein Dia’s character is subjected to tremendous torture, perhaps molestation too. She has been labelled as a militant by everyone. On the other hand, Mohit’s character Vedant Rathod is forced to scout for a human interest story by his senior for the viewers want a ‘sensational story with an emotional connect’ he is told. Vedant then finds out about the militant who gave birth to her daughter in jail and is raising her in prison.
Vedant is seen holding Kainaaz in his embrace in the rushes and even tells her to speak up the entire truth. Towards the end, we see Kainaaz’s little girl claim that she is not a Pakistani but an Indian. In an exclusive conversation, Dia had told us, “Kaafir is my heart. Some very very special people have come together tell this special story.”
Ever since the trailer has been released, Bollywood celebrities have been showering heaps full of praises on the entire cast and crew for bringing such a stellar story to life. Check out some of the tweets here:

When the characters are so deeply committed to the scenes, it is impossible for the audience not to feel equally committed. What a lyrically gripping trailer Kaafir is.
