Leading model and popular actress Gauahar Khan makes her foray in the horror genre with the ninth episode of ZEE5 original series Parchhayee: Ghost Stories by Ruskin Bond. The episode, titled Night of the Millennium, stars her alongside Naveen Kasturia and Ruhi Singh. Naveen made his mark in the web world with popular web series ‘Pitchers,’ while Ruhi made her Bollywood debut with Madhur Bhandarkar’s Calendar Girls.
Night of the Millennium is shot at a hill station where a palatial mansion is up for auction. However, the property and the village hold secrets of their own. The first sign of trouble shows up when the auction coordinator passes away seconds before the property is “sold.” Jimmy (Naveen) makes the highest bid but loses on buying the estate. He meets Akshara (Gauahar) at the auction, who later introduces herself as an art historian. The two befriend each other during a sneaky detour of the house.
Their quick tour is interrupted by spooky encounters – the painting lights up, Akshara sees her dead ex-boyfriend to name a few. Soon Jimmy is transported to a land where he is forced to come face-to-face with the sins of his past. Jimmy had made a sex tape of his girlfriend and made it public, forcing her to commit suicide. On the other hand, he also killed his own mother for his father’s property. The ghosts of his past life come for Jimmy, making it a fear-fest scene.
The episode is a classic urban legend – a haunted villa that houses ghosts and spirits. Except for Gauahar and Naveen’s tale comes alive, scaring the living daylights out of us all. Despite her first horror project, Gauahar does a fantastic job including the climax part which takes us by surprise. The episode is also laced with quite many gruesome and chilling scenes, compared to the previous ones. Naveen as a business-minded figure delivers brilliance. Although Ruhi has a short role, she doesn’t take away from the entertainment factor one bit, in fact, amps it up by manifolds.
However, you might want to jump a few scenes and freaky noises if you cannot stand spookiness. The tension and suspense are tightly wrapped making you anxious till the end.
